Keep An Eye Out For Pharm Parties

Pharm parties, skittles parties, rainbow parties – these are some of the names teens are calling get-togethers now. Getting charged with possession of marijuana or drug possession or possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, stealing, MIP, DUI/DWI or assault are only some of the problems associated with these types of parties.

These parties are comprised of teenagers going into their parents’ medicine cabinets and taking any and all medications they can find – prescription pharmaceuticals as well as over-the-counter drugs. The teens then all meet and literally dump all of everyone’s pills into a big bowl (hence, all of the different colors of the prescription and nonprescription pills and medication look like Skittles © candy or a rainbow of colors).

Part of the so-called “pharm fun” is that no one knows what they are taking – they take fistfuls of drugs – these large bowls are possessing drugs of all types. The drug possession is anything from Xanax, oxycodone, barbiturates, anti-depressants, lithium – it could be anything!

Death is a very real possibility. If the teenager who is in possession of these drugs, and they are fortunate enough not to die, they can still suffer from some major criminal charges. Some types of City Ordinance or criminal charges could be: drug possession or MIP, possession of drug paraphernalia. That’s not all! These teens can also be charged with DUI/DWI, assault, stealing, theft, possession with intent to distribute, assault, domestic violence – the list goes on. Lee’s Summit Municipal Court, Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Court, Overland Park Municipal Court, and some of the Kansas City area State Courts, such as Jackson County Circuit Court or Johnson County District Court, or Clay County Circuit Court have seen an alarming rise in these types of cases.

Additionally, in some cases, even the teen’s parents could be charged with child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, or maybe even possession of drugs or illegal substances.

Kansas City area municipal courts and State Courts take a hard stance when it comes to young offenders whether it’s for theft, stealing, drug possession, MIP, possession of drug paraphernalia. If the young offender gets charged with a city ordinance violation in one of the many Kansas City area municipal courts, they could get a drug conviction on their record, up to 6 months in jail and up to a $1,000 fine – for each count (or even possibly each illegal prescription drug in their possession). In the State Courts, with possible criminal charges ranging from drug possession to possession with intent to distribute drugs, or a DUI/DWI, possession of an illegal substance, the legal ramifications can include months or years of prison time.
