Traffic violations can add up to trouble

On Behalf of | Sep 5, 2021 | Traffic Offenses

Though it may not seem like traffic violations are very serious, they can add up and cause trouble for you. Minor violations like speeding tickets might seem normal, but they have consequences that outweigh the benefits of simply paying the ticket and moving on.

Penalties for traffic violations may include points on your license in Missouri or a moving violation on your driving record in Kansas. Either one of these may increase the cost of your insurance, result in the court imposing fines and penalties and even put your license at risk.

Common traffic violations could cost you your license

You could lose your license if you are found guilty of too many traffic violations within a short time. Some of the violations that could work against you include:

  • DUI/DWI
  • Speeding tickets
  • Running a stop sign or red light
  • Racing
  • Driving with a suspended license
  • Failing to stop or yield to other traffic
  • Failing to register your vehicle

Many defendants don’t realize the importance of defending themselves against these charges. Some of them, like speeding tickets, simply allow you to pay a fee and move on. However, that speeding ticket or violation will stay on your record if you plead guilty or no contest. You’re agreeing that you broke the law by paying the ticket.

Other violations require you to go to court, but you may be unable to defend yourself well if you aren’t sure of the laws or how to fight back. You’ll want to learn more about the importance of understanding your rights to protect your best interests. A good defense may help you avoid penalties and fines.
